Colorado is home to some of the best skiing in the world. This winter is a special winter for Colorado’s oldest continually operating ski area, Steamboat Springs which is celebrating 100 years of skiing. It was Carl Howelsen, a Norwegian skier, who introduced the sporting aspect of skiing to the area and opened up the first ski hill. Skiing still brings in a lot of visitors to the city it has grown into a city with a lot to see and do all year round.
Howelsen Hill was the first hill opened by Howelsen in 1915 and is still operating today. The success of the hill lead to more ski area’s opening up around town. The city of Steamboat Springs and their winter sports club have now produced 89 Olympic athletes.
Off the hill the city is home to some beautiful and relaxing hot springs – as the name would suggest. Open all year around the springs are a great way to relax after a summer hike through the mountains too.
Of course hiking is just one of the many summer actives the town has to offer. One of the best events for awesome pictures is the Hot Air Balloon Rodeo. Adding hot air balloons to the already beautiful views has to be seen to be believed. Luckily we have those photos below.
